A
BRIEF STORY OF OUR PRESENTATIONS
...in the beginning there was the Espectaculo...
The
multi-discipline Espectaculo series manifested in four
events over the period of 2 years (2000 - 2002).
Through
this project the gyrlz, not only formed but, represented
over 100 visual and performative artists,
including:

Sculpture, Izanami, Jawihge, Sardonik
Grin, FreQ, Mesmer, Nommo

End of the World Circus, Acroyear, Eroto-Comotose
Lucidity, Padrice Stewart, Josh Lubin, Creeper, Myron
Chase, Lisa
Newman, Jesse Pepe'r, Alysa Volpe, Faith Jennings,
Jake Scharbach, Patrick Puopolo, John Arnold, Faith Jennings,
Ben Pink, Chris Moss, and Joshua Camozzi Milligan.
Proud
2 Put Out manifested between 2000-2003 featuring work
from local and international artists who are driven to
challenge the politics of language and symbolic communication;
through border-crashing live art, sonique exploration,
and the post-genre communiqué of text-based performative
art.
This
included; Ty Connor, Pecos B, Creative Material Group,
Padrice Stewart, Jennifer Robin, and the gyrlz;
Lisa Newman, the Reverend Rafik Legbara (Llewyn Máire),
Lidia Yuknavich, and Devin Crowe’s (visual art).
Two
spotlight presentations, called the Identity
Fuxux Forum have been hosted 
featuring
the local installation theatre group Technician
(2002),
The
format of the events consisted of a performative
exhibition followed by a breakout gathering
which facilitated an outlet for creative deconstruction/
critique of the presented work(s) and provide
a forum for intellectual/ emotional decompression
and information sharing/ exchange.

The
Perpetuating Response presentations (2002-2003)
manifested as a series of events in diverse
locations, throughout PDX,
with the primary intent of providing a free forum for
the exposure of local artists and performer's work,
creating
environments for discourse, gave regular access to the
gyrlz, and created opportunities to recruit potential
volunteers, contributors, and artists.

Gyrlz, in association with Western States Center, presented
La Pocha Nostra's Mexotica: A Living Diorama of Fetishized
Others (2002).
Mexotica
is a multi-disciplinary, living diorama in which Guillermo
Gómez-Peña and collaborator Juan Ybarra construct hybridized
personas, merging several cultures/ languages, and exhibit
themselves as "cultural specimens." The artists personas
explore complex identities of race and gender.

The
Planet Gallery hosted an annual fundraiser of mamocentric
art to benefit the EL-fest (2002-2006)

RE:build
focused on providing a forum for some basic introductions
between groups (2003).
Several arts groups (and members of the media) tabled

Week
El-fest
transformed the city for the month of November,
bringing together emerging local talent
and accomplished international figures (2002
- 2005).
16-23 events at diverse locations manifested with the mission to:
deliver a spectrum of live art, media
& experience; where international & local
artists, cultural groups, and communities
converge for a month dedicated to exploring
identity, bodies, political environments,
dreams, desire, love and nightmares
